Introduction: Builds reader interest
Background: General information on issue - All these should be in the introductory paragraph
Position: States author’s position
(ONE PARAGRAPH)

Argument 1: - Be sure to use techniques such as Logical Argument, Expert Opinion and Loaded/ Charged Words
Argument 2: - You may have two or three arguments. Each argument should be one paragraph
Argument 3:
(TWO OR THREE PARAGRAPHS)

• Counterargument: Explains why the other side’s argument is wrong
(ONE PARAGRAPH)

Conclusion: Restates opinion; gives the reader a mandate (call to action) - Summarize and write why reader should support the opinion

Title of editorial or commentary
Who is the audience?
How will you introduce your essay so that you build interest?
What background information will you need to state?
What is your position on the issue?
What are your arguments? (facts, statistics, testimonials, anecdotes)
What is the counterargument? Why is it wrong?
How will you conclude: Restate your position? Give a call to action?
